Editing

The period in which we took to edit the captured footage was done on a regular basis during spare time as well as the time we were allowed during lesson. This allowed us to make quicker progress to produce a final opening sequence of the crime drama.
This also allowed us to ensure a final product to be produced in the limited time we were given during lesson.
During editing we decided on the footage that needed to be re-filmed as it did not fit to standard with the remainder of footage. The editing session allowed us to analyse our footage as well as link it all together to create a storyline to it. When the footage was all put together the music that the group had decided on was inserted to fit the footage. This was then, the time where we considered the addition of voice overs, for the introduction but also to create an atmosphere in the opening scene of the prison cell.

Deadline

12-02-10=My finalised storyboard was developed and handed on for final marks, as this was our final draft deadline.this was also the deadline for our crime drama. however during the lesson just before time to hand. Myself and the group finalised the project. This was done by completing any outstanding tasks, such as adding the credits and importing the voice over. By the end of the lesson we managed to complete our opening sequence of the crime drama ready to be handed in.

check list

As the dead line for the final video is soon arriving I have created myself a checklist which indicates what is still needed or has been done.
  • The linked production 'story board' has been completed
  • Filming has been completed
  • Uploading the newly filmed footage
  • Cutting the filming during editing
  • adding transitions and effects
  • adding music
  • record the voice over and add it
  • produce credits
  • put it all together

Audience

As our task was to create a 3minute opening sequence for a newly invented crime drama, the intended audience for our crime drama is 16-25, this was because our crime drama portrays youthful people which typically involve themselves in groups and gangs and our crime drama shows the outcome of gang actions. This crime drama also portrays women on how some women may defend themselves when it comes down to being harassed however shows the negative outcome of a 'women' standing up for herself against a male, which are usually being shown as the more dominant character.

Our crime drama was seen to be some what similar to the wire. This allowed us to come to a conclusion that our crime drama would be a crime drama which in general would be more likely to be broad casted on channel 5, than any other channel. As this channel shows similar crime dramas such as CSI.

linked production

I have researched some existing storyboards on google for inspiration on how to create my own. This helped me to gain ideas on how to set my own storyboard out. An example of a storyboard is shown above. This storyboard inspired me and allowed me to think that no fancy drawings are requires just as long as it is clearly indicated what is being told through the story.
However after the research I conducted I was able to complete my story board before the deadline I had set for my self as well as the final deadline for the linked production to be handed in.

Re-filming

on the 22.01.10 we re filmed a few scenes from our footage as when it came down to editing some shots were not present. We used this opportunity to film the scenes we were missing but also to re film scenes that we thought were not as quality compared to the other footage we had. We filmed a couple of scenes of the victims dead body and the two undercover cops following the criminal in the same scene, as we thought this would be much clearer as to who the cops were following.

Ideas on link production

I have altered my decision from creating a poster for our crime drama to creating a storyboard. The reasoning behind this decision is due to the lack of time we have in preparation it will create greater stress to learn how to use photoshop which mat result in an unsatisfactory end product. As I have before created a story board for our crime drama I have decided to develop on this and create a more professional story board.
I have research on google guidance on how to produce a good storyboard in which I found templates and drawing tips on how to do so. Although I found templates from feedback from my teacher, I have decided to design and produce my own storyboard template.
DEADLINE: by the end of this week my aim is to plan and complete a design for my storyboard which will then allow me to start my storyboard

Linked Production

As part of the practical work of the crime drama, I will be creating an individual piece of production linked to the crime drama. I have chosen to create a poster in which will advertise the crime drama we have created as a group. I will be creating this poster on photo shop.
However, as I have chosen to create the poster it will also be required of me to produce a secondary poster of a smaller size consisting of similar information that will be on the larger advertising poster.

Story board

As a group we were told to create a storyboard by our teacher.

I then took this task upon myself and completed one for our group crime drama.
This was then handed to be viewed as a group where we made a few minor changes, from feedback from our teacher and developed it further to set a definate story for our crime drama.

Analysis of questionnaire results

Q1. Fracture was voted the most popular mane of the two, this was the reasoning behind choosing this name for our crime drama intentionally. However after the filming had been completed Shahema came up with the idea of 'Pathways', which we all agreed was a better suited name for the crime drama we are producing.

Q2. A gun was suggested to be a more conventional weapon for a crime drama, as we took upon this information and suggested a gun in our production.

Q3. Although crime dramas may frequently use dialogue, this was unpractical in our case as the cameras we were provided with to film our crime drama, does not have a good quality sound microphone, but also considering that other sounds will be picked up on this device such as the wind, etc. So for this reason we decided that it was best to use sound effects and music to create dynamics for situation occurring.

Q4. suggestions for names were given, however more appropriate suggestions were made such as keeping original names of the cast for the drama itself.

Q5. Although all 3 were conventional crimes for a crime drama, suggestions from audience were made that a murder is more 'exciting' and more popular with viewing audiences.

Q6. Setting the scene of our crime drama synopsis, it was more conveniently suggested that our crime drama suited being situated outdoors.

Final crime drama title

As a group our finalised name for our crime drama will be 'Pathways', this is because we feel this name has a meaning to the drama over the intended name 'Fracture'.
The meaning behind this name is as the story follows a criminal in action, it shows you do not have to offend in order to achieve what is wanted. As there are different paths to follow.
